An app that imitates growing flowers

An app that draws circles and arranges them so that the axis of each new circle is oriented 120° from the previous circle's, and so that each circle's diameter is coincident with its Fibonacci number.

Here are some starter code that will require reworking:

  <style>
    .circle { fill: none; stroke: black; stroke-width: 2; }
  </style>

  <circle class="circle" cx="0" cy="0" r="1" />
  <circle class="circle" cx="100" cy="0" r="2" />
  <circle class="circle" cx="-50" cy="86.6" r="3" />
  <circle class="circle" cx="-100" cy="-50" r="5" />
  <circle class="circle" cx="75" cy="-130" r="8" />
  <circle class="circle" cx="175" cy="75" r="13" />
  <circle class="circle" cx="-150" cy="175" r="21" />

Unlearning

In our ceaseless quest for knowledge and growth, we often fixate on learning new things. We devour books, attend workshops, and seek out mentors to expand our understanding. But what if I told you that sometimes, the true path to progress lies not in acquiring more, but in unlearning?

The Unlearning Paradox
Unlearning is the art of shedding outdated mental constructs—those rusty frameworks, beliefs, and assumptions that have become obsolete or counterproductive. It’s about challenging the status quo, questioning deeply ingrained habits, and creating space for fresh perspectives. In a world where change is the only constant, unlearning isn’t just valuable; it’s essential.

Recognizing the Ghosts of Thought Past
The first step in unlearning is recognizing that our existing mental models may no longer serve us well. These models are like old software running in the background, consuming resources without contributing to our growth. Ask yourself: What assumptions am I clutching? Are they still relevant? If not, it’s time to hit the “uninstall” button.

Crafting New Neural Pathways
Once we’ve identified the outdated, we must actively seek or create new mental models. Imagine these as upgraded versions of our thinking software. What alternative approaches can better achieve our goals? How can we adapt to shifting landscapes? Embrace curiosity over certainty, and explore fresh ways of seeing the world.

Rewiring the Brain
Unlearning isn’t a one-time event; it’s an ongoing process. We must rewire our neural pathways, much like upgrading our mental operating system. Practice, repetition, and consistency are our allies. As we discard old patterns, we make room for innovative ideas, creativity, and resilience.

Unlearning in Action
1. Question Assumptions
Challenge the “that’s how we’ve always done it” mentality. Just because something worked in the past doesn’t mean it’s optimal now. Be open to alternatives.

2. Embrace the F-Word: Failure
Failure is fertile ground for unlearning. When things don’t go as planned, examine why. What assumptions led to this outcome? Learn from setbacks.

3. Stay Curious, My Friend
Curiosity fuels unlearning. Seek out diverse perspectives, read widely, and engage in conversations beyond your comfort zone. Curiosity keeps our mental models agile.

4. Unlearn Bias, One Stereotype at a Time
Our biases shape our thinking. Unlearn them by actively seeking counterexamples. Challenge stereotypes and preconceptions.

5. Release the Attachments
Unlearning requires detachment. Let go of ego, attachments, and the need to be right. Embrace the freedom of an open mind.

Efficiency: Shedding outdated practices streamlines workflows.
Innovation: Unlearning sparks fresh ideas and breakthroughs.
Adaptability: Agile minds navigate change more effectively.
Collaboration: Openness to unlearning fosters better teamwork.
So, let’s celebrate the art of unlearning. Embrace the paradox: Sometimes, to move forward, we must first look back and let go. 🌟

Mark Bonchek, Founder and CEO of Shift Thinking, aptly said: “The problem isn’t learning: it’s unlearning.”

Auto-Tilak

Camera apps can put horns on people's heads, halos over their heads, or glasses on their faces. Let's make one that puts Tilak on foreheads.

Energy Differential Calculator

A program that can show the difference in energy required to move the same amount of mass the same distance one overland and the other by air. But what I'm interested in here is the amount of energy required to overcome friction on the ground and the differential and energy required to keep that same mass aloft and overcome the coefficient of friction in the air. So, in other words, I'm not looking for a comparison of freight versus airfreight, I'm looking for the actual physics of the difference in energy cost it takes to move something on wheels over road versus moving that same mass through the air. How much more energy does it take to get a given mass airborne and to keep airborne and then to land it, and then compare that to the same trip start to finish made on wheels.

Reading printed text aloud

App idea:

An application that allows you to point your smartphone camera at a document full of text, take a picture, and have the text read out loud.

It involves these steps:
  1. Inputting the text with the camera
  2. Optical character recognition
  3. Exporting the recognized text to a document
  4. Reading the document aloud
